The Ptolemies
Ptolemaic Dynasty
Previously, I was a bit confused about the word Ptolemaic itself. I looked it up until I discovered the fact that it was not a figure but a dynasty or era that was very influential and even incredibly famous for its history.
The Ptolemaic Dynasty refers to the ruling family that governed Egypt following the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC. Named after its founder, Ptolemy I Soter (PtolemyI) one of Alexander’s generals, the dynasty lasted for nearly three centuries until the annexation of Egypt by the Roman Empire in 30 BC.
The Ptolemaic dynasty, also known as the Lagid dynasty, was a Macedonian Greek royal house which ruled the Ptolemaic Kingdom in Ancient Egypt during the Hellenistic period , The Ptolemies were of Macedonian Greek descent but adopted many aspects of Egyptian culture and religion to solidify their rule over the native population.
The Ptolemaic dynasty ruled the Ptolemaic Kingdom, which encompassed ancient Egypt. Ancient Egypt at that time covered most of what is now Egypt, as well as some of the larger areas surrounding it. These areas include the Nile Delta, central and southern Egypt, as well as parts of modern Libya and northern Sudan.
During the reign of this dynasty, they established Alexandria as the capital of Egypt. at that time it became one of the most important cities in the ancient world
Aleksandria (Arab: الإسكندرية) (translit: Al-Iskandariyyah) was the center of trade, scholarship and culture at that time. They are known for their significant contributions to the arts, sciences, and literature, as well as for their ambitious building projects, including the famous Pharos Lighthouse and the Library of Alexandria.
Although their seat of government was in Alexandria, the Ptolemaic Kingdom effectively ruled over a vast territory that covered most of ancient Egypt.

A brief description of the genealogy of figures in this dynasty starting from the founder of this dynasty Ptolemy I is known as the founder of the dynasty while his wife Berenice had significant influence at court and in Ptolemaic politics.

but during the reign of Ptolemy IV the son of Ptolemy III was famous for his reign which was achieved by corruption and cruelty and under his rule, Ptolemaic Egypt began to decline.
He is said to have built a giant ship known as the tessarakonteres.
The dynasty is also notable for its internal power struggles, alliances with other Hellenistic kingdoms, and interactions with Rome, particularly through figures like Cleopatra VII.

There will be a lot of long and interesting discussions, especially about Cleopatra VII herself. I also plan to discuss it in another title because it is so interesting to review, I myself can’t wait to explore and learn about this beautiful woman.
